/var/www vs /home/public_html"

.. no difference, personal preference. but of course links must reflect the choice.

a lot of folks use, say:-

/home/username/public_html but that's bad for forward-planning, when you're beginning to host your mates' sites too and need to give them permissions.

Aegir .. no, I've not, but will now in time for that guide! thank you.

And tx for the praise!

Sounds great Olly, thanks! One more quick question. Whats the difference between the /var/www directory and the public_html directory you set up?

I've been reading this nginx for drupal tut over on drupal groups and git hub and they set up a var directory for nginx. So i'm just wondering why, and what the difference is?

http://github.com/omega8cc/nginx-for-drupal/blob/master/nginx-install.txt
http://groups.drupal.org/node/46404

Have you heard of Aegir, its a cool front end multi site manager for multiple drupal sites, kind of like wordpress mu.

Definitely have my lifejacket on cause I'm a newb trying to swim in the deep end of the pool right now, but your site has been amazing.

yo Joe .. OK .. will try to get this out for this time next week if that''s OK .. so next Tuesday? I've had a few requests so you're not the only one.

(I've been put back by this forum biz .. otherwise I'd have written it up already)

yes, the configs, in those site-specific virtual hosts/config files, are a little different.

but that's fine .. they and whatever else will run quite happily from the same server

so no worries.

Yeah, i've found a few hints and it seems the nginx conf file gets changed quite a bit for Drupal? Is that right? I guess as soon as you could bring it out would be appreciated, don't want to mess with the schedule though! Last, is it possible to run a drupal site and a wordpress site with the multisite setup if they require different configurations? Thanks again!

hey Joe .. that's likely htaccess, yes.

tell me, how fast do you need the Drupal site working?

I'm working on a tutorial this week setting out exactly how to set up Drupal on Nginx .. although I wasn't gonna publish it quite yest, with other tuts ready to go .. but I could bring it forward if that helps.

Drupal is a rather different setup to WP on Nginx .. er, you'll be pleased to hear!

Olly, ok now i'm thinking this is an htaccess issue since I transferred the site from an apache server. I will continue to try and figure it out.

Hey Olly, just finished transferring a site to the VPS tonight and it was going damn good. So much so that I thought, hey lets add another site. The initial site I had transferred was a Drupal site. The second site I was adding was Wordpress and I followed the instructions in the add websites cheat sheet, so created another nginx/sites-available file with the wordpress specific permalinks and supercaching support. After that all the links stopped working on my first drupal site installation. Any idea what could have happened, or is it something else entirely?
