Can't get custom webpage to show up in browser
-
Hi I have followed all the tutorials. Installed LEMP and XCache. Spent countless hours.. trying to make sure everything is ok. Came across major hiccups with setting up PHPFM (abandoned for integrated which had me skipping parts because files to create were already created). Aside from not being able to do a reverse DNS at VPS.net (i have to pay $10 to do that which Ill do later). I have everything set up.
When I go to the domain I set up on the server I still get the default "Welcome to NGINX" message, instead of the custom "NGINX is cool" page. I unlinked and relinked the pages in available sites/enabled sites for the domain in question. I checked to make sure the index file was in the correct directory which I set up.
I've restarted NGINX.What can be wrong?

hey J, have you set your "nameservers", at your domain registrar, to point to your node's IP address? .. almost certainly your DNS settings haven't trickled through yet, can take anything from an hour or two to, as an outside, 2-3 days, for all the relevant "network hops" around the planet to pick up on your domain/IP (and that, basically, is what the Domain Name System does/is :)
.. until that trickles thru, correctly, the web server uses the default virtual host, rather than the one for your domain.
in the meantime, if you want to check/play with the site there's a cheat to tell your PC to find the site, bypassing DNS. follow the section "Amend Hosts File to Test Site or Blog" in this post:-

(I'd suggest you read all that post anyhow)
