Can't login after changing hostname
-
Well, as the title says it, I can't login after I change the hostname. I've not quite figured out the whole rsa-keys thing, so I am still needing to authenticate through password, and even when I do get my rsa-keys to work properly, I'm going to be connecting to my server on various computers, so I'm going to need to be able to authenticate with a password. So I'm not really comprehending why I can't login using my user password once I change the hostname from my IP Address to mail.mydomain.com.
Also, can I change my hostname to something other than mail.mydomain.com? I would rather use something like web.mydomain.com since this node is my web server, whlie I'm going to be setting up a sql and mta server as well. Maybe its just foolish of me, but I also don't really like seeing user@mail, so can I make this anything?

Alright, I did a fresh deployment of a distro on my server, and after following the guide again, I was able to get authentication using both my hostname and ip address, also using my web.mydomain.com instead of mail.mydomain.com.
Now, is it possible to change it from displaying on my shell as user@web? It appears that the shell strips the dot (.) and everything after it (ie - .mydomain.com).
Thanks

Yay! I'm stuck!!
Meh, now that I got my hostname to something more, well, custom, what am I going to do about my postfix capabilities?
Actually, as I type this, I think it doesn't matter if I give a hostname of mail.mydomain.com or web.mydomain.com, since this isn't something my visitors are going to see, and even though web.mydomain.com has NOTHING to do with mail, since it's the hostname of the server, this is what postfix needs.
Am I right? I'm kinda stuck at this point until I get this worked out. I have no intention of installing a mail server on this VPS, as I'm going to eventually be setting up a separate server for this purpose, and until that happens Google Apps for my mail service, but I still want my apps to be able to send mail.

hey roottoor .. have you seen the Postfix tutorial?

Yeah, I fixed it and got it all working the way I wanted. However, I'm still curious about the hostname stripping the hostname from @web.domain.com to @web.
