control panel

Hi Guv,
This is Agus. I posted some questions to your guvnr site (big fan) before you launched this bible... :)
Anyway, is there any progress at all with webmin/virtualmin control panel module for nginx? I really cant wait for it. I am just not the command line type of person and would like to focus more on the front end.
Anyway, right now my site is getting around 20,000 visitors/day. It is on the linode 360 running Drupal and its no problem at all.
However, I am expecting around 50,000 to 100,000 visitors/day in 2 months time, and I plan to switch to Wordpress.
Should I upgrade my Linode? if I should, to what linode?
Thanks Guv, I will be subscribing to your bible within a week. I am just lost without the 'word of Guv' :P

hey Agus .. about time you showed up!
hope you're well .. I wrote those Drupal guides at last, probably a bit late for you tho, sorry about that!
i left another plea on the virtualmin forum a few weeks ago and last i'd seen the admin there, Joe, hadn't come back.
.. but damn, just use bash and cron jobs to shortcut those backend tasks .. no excuse m8, I'll be writing up more tuts about that and organising the Nginx Admin docs so they're more obvious on this site.
re your Linode traffic, i think you should talk to support and ask them, they'll be fair with you and may suggest tweaking your current plan rather than upgrading.
.. found a good link though for bandwidth calculation and if you can tell support what that's likely to be they'll feedback better:-
so you switching Drupal to WP? out of interest why? gimme a link to your site, sounds like a great success.

Hey Guv,
The site is sepakbola.com (an indonesian soccer news site).
Im leaving Drupal due to the fact that the people over at Wordpress are doing things better (from my perspective anyway, a non coder) and they seem to understand what most regular people are looking for. Its like they have better vision... :D
Just like you when you opted for fastcgi instead of php-fpm, I did the same when I opted for Drupal instead of Wordpress...
Now a year later, I feel like wordpress is kicking drupals behind big time.... :D
not to mention there is this awesome theme framework in the form of 'Thesis'.
Hopefully this will be the last migration. From Joomla->Drupal->Wordpress
Anyway happy birthday to VPSBible! More success... :)

From what I hear, drupal will scale better in terms of traffic. I've dealt with a high traffic wordpress site once on a LAMP server. I had to set up memcached and supercache together for it to handle well. I'm actually doing the opposite and going from wordpress to drupal.

Hi Osb,
I guess if you are good with code, you cant go wrong with Drupal, just a little more learning curve at the beginning.... :)

yeah, i'm still trying to figure out how drupal works. wordpress was pretty straight forward.

valuable thread, this.
couple of points of interest:-
wordpress 3 is due out in may (although quite likely it'll be late) .. it'll merge WP and MU (so BuddyPress too) and that's gonna be a great benefit to many.
being a major release, who knows what else they've got up their sleeve but, I shouldn't be surprised, maybe they'll have turned the bbPress forum (as used here) into a plugin, turning WP into even more of a CMS.
i don't know joomla or drupal very well but do like WP. for more complex sites i'd highly recommend MODx .. great community too, but really you need to get your head round at least some basic php to make the most of that one.

One thing that I do hate about wordpress is their user registration / login - if it didn't look the way it does, i might be sold on it. I do hope they fix it for version 3. But I do have to admit... wordpress' backend is great and very user friendly.
I wish drupal 7 will become more user friendly... I realize many big sites out there use drupal. I did a lot of researching and my favorite drupal site would be http://www.popsci.com/
As for MODx, I got into it for a little while. Converting my HTML to their theming methods is taking much of my time so I took a break from it. Although, it did look very promising. So many applications, so little time.

Just came across this great thread and wondering if there is any hope for Webmin Nginx support in your opinion Guv?

frankly Andy, I'm not gonna hold my breath for an official mod .. myself and other folks have pleaded and, sadly, only seem to receive lip service:-
http://www.virtualmin.com/node/9169
... PLEASE GO THERE AND MAKE A REQUEST!
(I wonder what is the link between webmin/virtualmin and Apache?!? .. especially as Apache's market share is dropping while Nginx' share is increasing, albeit still a tenth, tops, of Apache)
But more likely perhaps is for someone to write an independent mod which can be implemented.
For my part, off the back of vpsB stackscripts, I'll be putting together some Admin Scripts to carry out common tasks (like adding a new domain at the issue of a simple command.)

PS .. I just had another go.
@all .. Do you want a CP? Then tell those fine chaps:-

Don't know much about Wordpress, but I hear ya' about the Drupal learning curve; but IMHO worth the journey. I was at the recent Drupalcon 2010 in San Francisco. Lots of improvements coming in D7.
