Drupal Install Stuck
-
Hi All,
I've followed the guide and I'm not trying to install Drupal. I go through all the steps, set up the symlink and my install page shows up.
However, when I enter the info it just hangs there, reloads and tells me to enter the info all over again.
I've done some testing - chmodded 777 on the entire folder, the settings file and the files folder - still nothing.
I also have the default.settings.php alongside, so that's not the issue (as a google search will tell you).
The craziest part is this. the information I put into drupal does get written into the settings.php file, but the database never gets populated with data. So, I thought it was a mysql user permissions issue. Tried to do it as root, and still failed;
My only conclusion is that it's an issue with mysqli because that's what drupal uses as its db. And I have absolutely no clue how to check if my server supports it or not or how to set it up.
Please help. Muchas gracias!

hi maksim, I'm having my own special issues with a d7 upgrade to alpha- which version are you working with? 6 or 7? have you looked at the drupal site for any clues? be glad to help, can you give me an update?

hey uraxs, I'm working with drupal 6 for now. I'm still learning so I figure a stable version would be best for me.
I did try to instll alpha 4 though and it crashed with a weird php error.
There's some stuff on the site, but i'm such a damn n00b when it comes to advanced stuff that it doesn't make much sense to me.
I did go to a drupal thing yesterday though and talked to a guy who does this for a living. He looked at what's going on and we determined that it's nothing to do with the db permissions for file permissions on my install. he recommended i switch from nginx to apache, and I'm thinking about it, but I do have WP running right now under nginx and its lightning fast.

hey Maksim .. the Drupal guides here run and are tested for 7 .. truth is I've never tried 6.

well, my main dev site is still stuck in maintenance mode so I'll have to either do major surgery or scrap it and reinstall....maybe I'll go with D6 since it's tried and true. I'll keep a D7 install on a less crucial IP for now until it grows up a little.

well as you know guv, with any job it helps if you're smarter than the tool. ;) Drupal is a great tool, the learning curve is a bit steep but well worth the climb! I would like to have more time and mental bandwidth to apply myself...need an advanced Drupal architect actually, if any of you are out there reading this by chance.

so, how does it compare with WordPress which, on this site for example, is really used more as a CMS than a blogging platform. And with Joomla?
(Gary, have you looked at MODx? It's more complex that Drupal, very php-mods-led but you get used to the syntax .. the community is *superb* and you'd likely find a good partner there. .. Just a thought, http://modxcms.com .. IMHO the best CMS I've seen for producing truly unique sites.)
