Drupal's .htaccess stuff vs nginx

Drupal has an .htaccess file to lock up various folders and do other stuff. I've got the rewrite stuff taken care of thanks to the tutorial here.
But is there anything else I need to do make sure nginx has all the bases covered that Apache would normally do via that .htaccess file?
So far the site seems to work fine but I want to make sure it's secure and continues to work well.
