/etc/hostname permission denied
-
I'm following the postfix setup guide:
http://vpsbible.com/email/setup-postfix-email/
I am getting :
-bash: /etc/hostname: permission denied
when trying to add mail.billiard.ws
Also, my etc/hostname file was empty too...not sure what to put in it...
thoughts?

No problem, thanks for responding. I ended up getting it working, though I had to go through the tutorial again very carefully. I probably just missed a step or two along the way.
Thanks,

I just had the same error. I tried sudo, with the same error. I went in as SU with no error upon entering the command. Will this cause any issues later on? I'm pressing forward hoping not, but any advice is greatly appreciated.

This was resolved for me by following Christine's advice under the topic "Problem with hostname f" minus her last host name change line entry. (e.g. mail.mydomain.com mail) Likewise changing "mail.mydomain.com" to simply "mail" worked in the etc/hostname file.
