Guide shufflings caused some stuff to break.
-
Since I last followed this guide in February, the bit about getting ready for Wordpress has been moved to later in the guide. This means that nginx fails to start when we make the references to the wp supercache stuff in the nginx subdomain config files. I think this might confuse some users.
Also, what's the deal with http://vpsbible.com/php/speed-up-vps-config-php-xcache/ getting axed from the official guide path? The compiling stuff is super-intimidating compared to that.

hi Will .. WP's in the same place, in fact the one thing that has moved is the Postfix for email guide, which is now placed before installing MySQL so that now-redundant MySQL libraries are no longer installed.
.. you do need to run through the tutorials in order though and, for the PHP and platform guides, choose those options that appeal to you.
Caching with XCache, being strapped to PHP, is now included in the PHP index page.
.. maybe I should separate caching onto its own section though?
re Nginx starting problems, this wouldn't have anything to do with WP Super Cache, that I can see.
I hope that clears things up for you.
(Tomorrow I publish the WordPress stackscript which you should be able to run any number of times to add any number of blogs and which will automatically link everything for you .. that may help.)

Hi Guv, cheers for the reply.
In http://vpsbible.com/web-servers/nginx-sub-domains/ the WP Cache stuff gets mentioned in the sites-available config file:
# Advanced version of Wordpress parameters supporting nice permalinks and WP Super Cache plugin include /usr/local/nginx/conf/wordpress_params.super_cache;But not until the next item on the list, http://vpsbible.com/content-management/nginx-platform-integration/ , do we set up that caching stuff, if we decide to do this option http://vpsbible.com/content-management/configure-nginx-wordpress/. The file /usr/local/nginx/conf/wordpress_params.super_cache is created in that most recent link, but it's referenced in the previous chapter - in the pasted config file section above. This causes nginx to have a little cry when you try and start it, because that file doesn't yet exist. Luckilly I'd done the tutorial before at some point, so I remembered that it'd fix up okay. Anyone following it by rote might be a little scared, though.

sorry Will .. I don't understand what you mean, please try again :P
http://vpsbible.com/web-servers/nginx-sub-domains/ ..
.. is not in the Install index, it's part of the Admin appendices.

I found the link to the subdomain stuff under the contents/"trail" for "Setup Unmanaged VPS: The Ubuntu-Nginx Guide", for which the listing of sections is at the bottom of all the three links in my previous post. If a user were to follow exactly in-order those specific pages, they would get the missing-file error I mentioned.

Will .. am with you now :P .. you're right, this could be clearer, thanks for the tip.
.. will rearrange and clarify the docs accordingly.
