hi Alem and Welcome.
(we're all new here :P )
er, have you subbed? gotta sub for code, but support forums are freeee.
i do have some issues with the registration though at the moment .. everything on this site is in beta *except the content!* .. so if you have some subscription issue lemme know and i'll sort that out pronto-presto.
Posted 2 years ago # -
o this is the error :) i havent subbed :D ok.
but do you make a tutorial how to setup:
Debian lenny nginx, phpmyadmin and virtualmin?
hmm... and emailservice ;)

not yet! this guide covers ubuntu server/nginx/phpmyadmin and a bunch of control panel workarounds for nginx:-
Setup Unmanaged VPS: The Ubuntu-Nginx Guide
there is no stable control panel for nginx .. i agree virtualmin/webmin would be ideal
.. hey, I've been pleading with these guys to build an nginx module:-
http://www.virtualmin.com/node/9169
then again, you don't need a control panel .. just a few simple commands that you can even alias shortcut using bashrc (and to get started you need a few damn fine admin tutorials like the ones here :P )
re Lenny, out of interest, why are you looking at that distro rather than, say CentOS?
I'm planning a CentOS fork from the existing docs that, as I say, use Ubuntu.
re. email, again i'm planning on adding an email server tut but, for most and as recommended in these docs, Google Apps is better because it's free, catch-all, and allows you to focus your server resources at serving pages, not sifting spam. here:-
Google Apps for Domain-Specific Email
I cover Postfix here tho, cos you need something like that for email whether with GA or a mail server:-

"re Lenny, out of interest, why are you looking at that distro rather than, say CentOS?"
on my host i can choose debian, ubuntu and centOs an google say debian is the fastest :D so i think its the fastest
but i am newby(im sorry ;P ) - which is the Distro whit the most performance and security?
p.s. i think i dont need a cpanel because just me add websites. Ftp and mysql ist enough.
do i need phpmyadmin? you know adminer what you think about?
Posted 2 years ago # -
From my own experience using phpmyadmin is very easy for a newby. I have been using and playing around with DataBases a lot, and I still prefare to use phpmyadmin for most taks, it works very well and lots of support. Debian and ubuntu are almost the same OS, there are some differences, but they are similar, most software made for Debian installs fine on Ubuntu. CentOs is good also, however you will find a lot more support for Debian/Ubuntu online, making life a bit easier for newbs :)
Posted 2 years ago # -
@Alem .. I'd say Adrian's comments about phpmyadmin are spot-on.
You know, if you're a noob then you should be thinking about support .. that is more important than getting a tad more speed for your first box.
check out Ubuntu Forums and you'll see why I use it for basic newbie guide here. damn, that forum is great, I think the best support forum of any kind I've encountered.
cPanel is littered with crap, to be frank, and is slow to navigate, and hence to use. IMHO, no, you don't need it.
(Adrian .. Sir, your name is just way too long .. you're breaking my site m8 ;) )

hey guvnr i setup my vps now :)
just one question: tomarrow (so god will)i make the "install nginx server"-tutorial. you see the list of the preinstalled apps. do i have something to deinstall?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Hi Alem .. just follow the guide .. its optimized for the vast majority of requirements.
Posted 2 years ago # -
oh no! i was deconcentrated and i do the full nginx install guide (whit config) white the root user (sudo bash) is this a problem?
Posted 2 years ago # -
hey Alem .. if you merely followed the guide, but as sudo, you should be totally fine.
Posted 2 years ago # -
hey guvnr have you a alternative for googlemail? i dont like google ;D
Posted 2 years ago # -
well, i understand people's concerns with google and similar massive organisations, but really there's nothing as good from the perspective of keeping your server as efficient as possible, while giving you the best quality mail service.
if you want me to write up a tut on installing a mail server (which i really should cos some folks will want the option) then make a request in teh Suggestions and Requests forum and I'll add that to the list .. actually it's already on the list but it may get bumped up the order a bit.
Posted 2 years ago # -
ok i do so. but i have now a athor problem. when i have a php-file in my public_html/domain/public directory i becom the answer 503. bad gateway.
what is here wrong?
p.s. if i wont two domains on one website i change it in the vhost file by the location all the other settings (servername, rewrite etc) i let it be?
