Hostname question
-
Hello,
To start off: I would be a medium-rare steak if how well a steak was cooked described someone's knowledge of VPS ;).
My problem: if I type http://anything.def.com into a browser it will redirect me to my initial site http://abc.com. So I am not able to have any subdomains on any of my sites except abc.com. I am on Linode with a single IP address and on a http://def.com's A record I have
Hostname: *
IP: My Linode IP
TTL: DefaultThis is my /etc/hosts file:
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.1.1 mail.abc.com
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
ff02::3 ip6-allhostsI remember in the tutorial it told us to set up the mail.domain.com but I never really knew why. I use Google apps so is this needed?
Also, when I type hostname -f I get the "hostname: Name or service not known" but if I go into Linode under "Remote Access" it shows my IP and then (mail.abc.com).
My main concern with all of this is I want to use sub-domained wordpress MU. I have MU installed but all the sub-domains just take me back to abc.com.
If I need to buy a new IP I am willing to do that. I am also willing to make http://def.com my "main" domain so that it will redirect there instead (I'd actually like to do this anyway).
Hope I gave enough info!
Thanks and best of luck in 2011 to anyone reading this!

Hi Dave .. you seen:-
