Lock Linux! locked me out!!!
-
Hi Guv,
BIG problem.
I just signed up today. I am with Linode too, mac OS X, Terminal (SHH), Cyberduck (file transfer, permission etc...). I did a couple deploys before, and this is my third deploy, this time, following your tutorial. I am a newbie.
I followed the instructions very, very carefully.
Everything was fine, I login via Terminal/SHH, Cyberduck, no problems. Until I started the: LOCK LINUX! – Configure SSH & an iptables Firewall: VPS BIBLEI am simply LOCKED, I cannot access anything, terminal say that port 22 is denied, although, I changed it exactly where you said, at the beginning and at the I replace the 3000...
Also, there seem to be a mistake in the tutorial just before that; I am not 100% sure, but I got an error, so I figured that was probably a mistake in the paths, which luckily, I was able to spot via Cyberduck, visually, but I keep this for an other thread.

I'm pretty sure you need to start from scratch again. Paying close attention to the instructions and knowing what is really happening with the mv command as I tried to explain in my last reply to your earlier post .. Don't give up .. I remember I had to do the tuts twice to get it perfect.. This is how you learn ;)

Hi IVPS,
It does work, but it can be a hell of a sweat for a newbie. One simple error can mess it all up.
If you have changed the port you will be getting access denied for port 22, because you need to log in at the new port you have created.
your ssh should look something like like:
ssh (username)@444.44.44.444 -p30000
I think from memory Guv uses port 30000 as a replacement port, and it sounds like you have used the same.
I am no expert, but if you want to ping me questions, I will try and help...I know how frustrating it can be...
ONE THING I CAN ASSURE YOU, GUV'S STUFF WORKS, YOU JUST NEED TO BE 100% accurate.
Don't get too upset if you struggle, just work at it carefully and methodically

Thanks Joe and Marcus!
Oh yeah, I am sure I did something wrong, no doubt about it :P I am just trying to work it out.
Well, I simply deleted the disk and started again... this time I am skipping this tutorial, will try it again when I am more confident.
One question Marcus, as noted in your reply, so it look like I am supposed to enter:
Something like this: ssh coco@123.12.12.123 -p5656As opposed to: ssh coco@123.12.12.123 ?
Basically, all you do is add the "-p5656" ?
But I don't remember seeing this in the tutorial?Doh! That's probably why I could not log in then???
I will check your website Marcus, at the moment, I living a "VPS" newbie life, meaning... hair pulling, lol!
