Gday, signed up yesterday to this beautiful site. I'v wanted to learn system admin / linux for a while now and this site makes it so much easier to get into.
I have a question about the hostname and why its set as mail.yourdomain.com instead of say vps.yourdomain.com. Is there a reason it has to mail. ? I'v seen many other hostnames but rarely see mail.
Cheers,

hi Christopher, good to see you about.
mail.etc is just a default .. can be changed to whatever you like. Don't forget to reflect any config changes in your DNS settings too.

Hi mate, thanks for the info. Thought it may be needed for Postfix.
