need database to configure to aegir script.
-
hello, guv! i finally got to the point to install the drupal multisite hosting script called aegir- except i use aegir/nginx alternative called barracuda. it didnt install. i was able to get the error log. http://pastebin.com/j7Tqt73W
main problem is
" Host '69.--------.203' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server"
i went on aegir chat and they show me how to access mysql with "mysql -u root -p" it listed
"Welcome to the MariaDB monitor. "a database called mariadb, which i had never heard of, but it was from the scripts you laid out. anyway, the creator of the barracuda script was on the chat and told me.
" Barracuda should work out of the box when using on the vanilla vps, no vpsbible needed ;), I would recommend to re-image the server and start again, but this time pay attention to final database server setup, you must follow displayed "
i said i would do it, but the thought of tearing up all of that work i just did is depressing.
if i use the barracuda script, i lose all of that secure server set ups in your method. i want at least try to take out this mariadb and put mysql in and configure it to the barracuda script. do you know how i would do that? in fact, looking at your mysql http://vpsbible.com/php/php-fastcgi-mysql-index/
doesnt really show anything how to do anything with mysqlPosted 1 year ago # -
Well, you shouldn't have to start over, although doing so needn't take long and always helps you to better understand your server but it just shouldn't be necessary.
What are you actually trying to achieve, Shelley 'cos, well, setting up Drupal is just a case of installing the platform, pretty much like any other, and connect some db whether maria, mysql, postgre or whatever:-
Setup Drupal on Nginx, Caching with Pretty Links
.. that tut links to the db setup tut. (If you prefer maria you'd install it rather than MySQL, connecting to it from the Drupal config file as is the case with any db.)
Or if you want Drupal multi-sites:-
Install Multiple Domains on Drupal with Nginx
Once Drupal's set up you add whatever modules you want from the dashboard.
And, er, what's Aegir got to do with it .. it's a web host, no? I know they market to Drupal folks but, really, a server is a server. Are they hosting you?
.. I'm missing something here! I like MariaDB but vpsBible doesn't use it anywhere (yet). Tell me more :P

Dear guv, thanks for responding.
i am now getting "permission denied" whenever i try to view my files using both my winscp or the ssh file manager. i can get the first primary folders, but cant get into the subfolders, namely the subfolder of the data directory to change the vhost config file. i used your guide to set up the firewall and stuff, do you think there is a conflict? what do i have to do to get rid of the permission denial?
thanks!(longer explanation)
Last week i went ahead and rebooted my server and started with a clean install. i followed the vbs guide up to "Add a Domain Zone to Your VPS" then i installed the specialized drupal hosting script. part of it successfully was installed. but now i am having a new problem. i cant get to the vhost config files in this script. i asked the makers of the script what to do and they said use nano "nano /data/disk/USER/config/server_master/nginx/vhost.d/octopus.persebra.com" http://goo.gl/2F8LO
when i did so i got a blank file, even after i corrected the username. i am afraid i didnt open an existing file so much as made a new file and i dont know what to put it. she gave me the second suggestion of using the file manager, but i kept getting permission denied.Posted 1 year ago # -
okay, i did do the clean instances and did the server set-up over again, i stopped just before the php/fast cgi install instructions because this scripts installs both of those plus nginx. ran the aegir/barracuda script and it worked!
aegir.persebra.com
i have another problem with the second part, octopus, however. i think i will start another thread because its a different issue.Posted 1 year ago #
