Nginx (better than Apache) Web Server tutorial issue

I get to this bit:
Compile with two options; where to install it, and including ‘ssl’ (to enable ‘https’ for secure connections, ie shopping and stuff):-
then it does something on screen and then I type:
make
and it says:
-bash: make: command not found
Any ideas

Richard, did you install build-essentials (contains the make program):-
