VPS dns or GoDaddy?
-
My domain names are registered with GoDaddy and I have used their nameservers in the past to point to a managed site.
Your instructions are to use the VPS nameservers -- do I skip that if GoDaddy is already set? Is reverse DNS handled by Linode or do I do something at GoDaddy?

I have never used linode but by looking at the guvs vid in the tutorial it looks like they handle reverse dns. I personally would probably just use godaddy and point to my site depending on the site. The domains I currently use I just point to my ip. Another host you may want to consider is tilaa.nl. I currently use them and love them. I get 3 gigs of ram, 120gb storage, and 1500gb traffic for $65 USD a month.

I don't think his instructions were to use the VPS nameservers, you will still need to use Godaddy's nameservers, or for that matter, any domain registrar's nameservers. That's because that is where it is registered. It shouldn't hurt to have more than one set of nameservers pointing to the host machine provided, of course, they point to the same domain and IP address.
You would, however, use the VPS Dns Services.Posted 1 year ago # -
There is also bind9 and you can use it to host your own domain which I have used in the past but it can be tricky setting it up.

You can use whatever nameservers you want. I use DNSmadeeasy. You do have to use linode for the reverseDNS.
