Way around constantly changing file permissions for uploads?

is there anyway to not have to constantly run putty and change permissions each time I want to use sftp? even with bash shortcuts, it's a pain in the ass to have to use two programs and do the permission swaps each time I want to upload a file.

@the_guv and all,
Added a second domain on the server with a perfectly working WPMU install on another domain. Somehow, this second domain brings up a 403 access denied error. Can someone kindly point me in the direction of resolving this?
Cheers,
Benjamin

403 Forbidden?
ensure
permissions
File names (index.html or Index.php)
or vhost stuff that it is pointing to right folder :)Posted 2 years ago # -
Thanks @Atif! To get rid of the 403 thing, i had to reboot the VPS for the permissions to take effect after adding another domain.

SAME QUESTION: is there anyway to not have to constantly run putty and change permissions each time I want to use sftp?
For now I set wpupgrade and leave it, because my blog is a multiauthor. Is it a risk??

Fabian .. I would strongly advise you to Google about Linux permissions.
Really, you should follow the sequential tutorial for a better understanding of what all this means .. the scripts are super-useful but you won't learn about what you're doing .. that will make your server less secure.
