WP-MU Checked Off, Drupal This Week!
-
Hey y'all!
OK, at last I'm cracking out some decent tuts and hope they're proving handy ..
.. obviously it'll take a bit of time to fulfill the wishlist but please keep the requests coming. If someone has already requested a topic, request it anyway because I'll attend to those topics most-required.
WordPress is pretty much wrapped up now with the two new posts last week which covered WordPress MU, BuddyPress and bbPress (for MU) with super-caching and pretty link Nginx configuration.
This week - and I'm wrapping the code right now, it's all tested and near-as-damn-it ready to go - is "Drupal Week" .. and I know a lot of you have been sat patiently waiting for this.
.. On Tuesday I'll set out the basic Nginx/Drupal7 procedure and then, on Thursday, expand on that showing how to set up multiple Drupal domains powered from a single Drupal platform.
Next week, unless this gets shouted down, I'll be starting the Ubuntu permissions series, starting with the basics and moving on to something I know will be popular: how to add users (and their sites) so they sit pretty and your server sits protected from them. (Then they can screw up their own database, not yours, for example.)
OK, back to it, gotta go, ciao for now ..

I'm running Drupal 6.16 on a Centos 5.4 and an Apache 2.2.3 and it runs great- would like to use Nginx on one of my ip's but am a bit leary to tinker with my Centos install as the tempalte has both Apace and Plesk integration. I got around Plesk by not installing it but had no option for Apache. Therefore, since I'm locked into my current setup I would like to see me support for such. Looking forward to seeing the Drupal week as I'm tinkering with D7 now as well.

Having trouble with Drupal 7 on Apache 2.2.3...installed php 5.3.2 and have narrowed it down to an Apache config problem but don't yet know what to do about it.

hi Gary,
haven't tried this with Apache, only with Nginx:-
» tutorial » Configure Nginx for Drupal
(almost certainly a rewrite issue though)
If you want me to write up some Apache tuts please make a request and I will .. hey, I know I need to tackle Apache for various platforms on this site .. you won't be the only one interested.

I'm starting to learn about rewrites and at this point am wondering if there's a program to help me so I don't have to learn another foreign language?

hey Gary .. you talking about Apache rewrites?
No idea!
Nginx? Er, frankly, bugger all!
There is this rather handy Apache-Nginx rewrites translator though, which is useful at least as a guide:-

thx Guv, I'll check that out- I finally got past one issue....seems that all I had to do is restart Apache and it automatically compiled the new php 5.3.2 update so now phpmyadmin works and I get the install page in D7. But now I get a blank scream at the verify system page....still tinkering but making progress!

UPDATE: I downloaded a fresh copy of D7 and installed it on another IP on the same VPS with complete success. I then uploaded that fresh version and replaced the one on the IP that had the issues. Now, everything is working just dandy on CentOS 5.4/ Apache 2.2.3 with PHP 5.3.2 and MYSQL 5.0.77 and seems to very stable. Thanks!
